Red-Turbaned Rubanis
Found primarily in the western Indian state of Rajastan, the Rabari are traditionally pastoral nomads who herd camels, sheep, goats, and cattle.
Their striking red turbans, a symbol of energy, courage, and life in their culture, also serve a practical purpose. These nomads, who brave the harsh sun and desert conditions of Rajasthan, use their turbans as a shield, making them a perfect blend of tradition and necessity.
Women are renowned for their elaborate jewelry–heavy silver necklaces, earrings, bracelets, anklets, nose rings, and bangles—and their art and embroidery skills.
This was one vibrant and colorful off-the-road stop on our drive from Udaipur to Jodhpur.
