Mighty Fine Mimicary

Leaf mantises blend seamlessly into their surroundings. Their leaf-like appearance helps them remain undetected by predators and allows them to ambush prey effectively. Pretty remarkable. Female leaf mantises are known for cannibalistic behavior, sometimes consuming their mates after or even during mating. This fact may score a heart or not. Loving these little insect-controlling guys and the opportunity we had to photograph one on our recent trip to Costa Rica.
