Herring Herding Humpbacks

Precisely what we experienced today in Alaska. Humpback whales work cooperatively, creating nets of bubbles that corral and concentrate schools of herring. Tough to predict where they’ll surface and even tougher to photograph once they do!

One amazingly unpredictable day, given the superabundance of herring and no need for coordinated feeding efforts. We are so incredibly lucky.
